True Innovation Includes Everyone
OUR MISSION
Diversity in Blockchain Inc. (DiB) is a nonprofit organization committed to creating equal, open, and inclusive opportunities in the blockchain industry. Our mission is to empower everyone from all walks of life to engage with blockchain technology in order to ensure equal participation and distribution. True innovation includes everyone. Through education, discussion, and engagement we can build a support network as revolutionary as the blockchain itself.
HOW WE DO THIS
We tackle diversity in blockchain from two angles — helping the millions of unbanked and underbanked achieve access to equal financial services while promoting diversity in the creation of blockchain technology from an employment point of view. This is essential, and it is essential NOW, while blockchain is in its nascent stage, as it will ensure we, as a community, do not make the same mistakes as in traditional tech. Currently, 67% of tech companies are comprised of less than 5% Black employees. The statistics are abominable. DiB advocates for change in the following ways:
We run an annual survey on the state of diversity in blockchain, which means we can verify the data
We include this data in an in-depth annual report which serves as a benchmark for industry best practices
We run a podcast and blog which allows us to leverage the knowledge of experts, amplify underrepresented voices and projects and create a diverse pool of representation in the industry, facilitating onboarding
Online and in-person events including panels, roundtables, and a job fair
With your help and additional funding, we can do more. For corporates, request a copy of our Sponsorship Deck here. For individuals, you can make a donation of any size here.
Diversity in Blockchain in the News
Meet the women who are making sure blockchain is inclusive by Lydia Dishman with Fast Company
Diversity in Blockchain’s Executive Director Susan Joseph was featured in this comprehensive overview of the industry, which lays out how woman are making their mark in the blockchain space. With a variety of access points for outsiders to jump into the industry, this article shows people that it is possible - now more than ever - to get involved to shape the future of technology.
“‘People think they can’t do it,’ Joseph contends, because it is considered a ‘tech’ job. ‘You don’t need a university program in computer science,’ she says. ‘What you need is curiosity and the ability to sift through public information.’ There is plenty to do beyond coding, says Joseph, who is an attorney by trade. She says those currently in the industry are willing to educate others and share their knowledge as long as someone asks.”
Our influence
DiB crosses all industries from financial services, insurance, identity management, humanitarian aid, healthcare, entertainment, supply chain management, civil society, intellectual property, real estate, education, artificial intelligence, IoT, energy, as well as anticipated blockchain industries.
OUR WORK
DiB will provide Best Practices for the blockchain industry and participate in partnerships to provide forums for education, discussion, and engagement through networking events, accelerators, conferences, published reports (Annual Report on the State of Diversity in Blockchain), educational workshops, and the first ever Blockchain Diversity Awards, honoring trailblazers from varying backgrounds. We look forward to celebrating industry pioneers who are both instrumental in creating inclusive opportunities for diverse representation in emerging technology, as well as those who are on their way to doing so.
